For this project, students were tasked with re-designing a modern currency to focus on a new story or a twist. This assignment gives us an opportunity to combine images and text in order to quickly communicate a concept and story in an irresistible fashion. We have to choose a location and then come up with a story for that location. The end result will have 3 different bills, front and back.
I started by choosing a location of my bill. I chose Finland due to the fact that I am from there and I am very familiar with Finnish culture, thus it was easy to come up with the story that would appeal to my audience. Finns are very proud of their beautiful land as well as their cities. My initial overview:

Finland is known for its beautiful forests and nature. It’s also called the land of a thousand lakes because the country is covered in over 188,000 lakes. Due to the vast amounts of forests and lakes, Finland has many wild animals. The capital, Helsinki, is known for its beautiful, old, European architecture. I want one of my bills to highlight the forests and the backside shows animals that live in the forests. Another bill will highlight the lakes and the backside the animals that live in the lakes. The last bill will show some of the architecture, and the backside shows people in the city.
I started by creating a mood board for my currency.
I researched multiple different Photoshop effects that would help me decide on the final style of my bill.
After I chose the style for my bills, I created the front and back of all of my stories. I kept the idea for my first two bills of the nature, however, I decided to put the the president of Finland on the last bill. The back of the last bill has one of the most famous buildings in Helsinki.
For my final versions (shown at the top of the page), I took out the box in the middle of the back of the bills to make it less crowded. I also made all of the bills brighter to make them more visually appealing. My bills were very successful in appealing to my audience and resembling money that could also be used in the real world. They are very cohesive together and includes all of the elements of actual currency.
