Inspiration - Craft of Bidriware
The origin of bidriware is usually attributed to the Bahamani sultans who ruled Bidar in the 14th–15th centuries. Bidriware techniques and style are influenced by Persian art. It was first brought to India by noted Sufi Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti in the form of utensils.
Thought
“We often like to make our own interpretations of an artwork. However, for this artwork, I chose a turtle as a living entity in form of a vessel (plate) containing
the universe while it meditates. The mandala is a symbol of the universe and is often used as a tool to meditate to find oneself. The use of patinated brass
depicts the decades lived by the creature adding to its beauty of wisdom. At the same time, one also appreciates the age-old craft of hand-engraved metal
wares which require a high level of fineness, precision, and patience to cut through the metal creating brilliant ornated designs.”
Thanks!
