Mixed Dimensions Wall Art

The client was after a mixed media artwork of a quirky character interacting with their locally sourced coffee beans to hang up in their coffee shop. It needed to remain semi professional while also appealing to children, which was a challenge.

The references they had shown were similar to Nescafé’s doodle competition, and many photographs where a character had been drawn and was interacting with a real object.
The cafe had the name “giga” in their name which reminded me of fennec foxes giant ears, this prompted me to want to play with the idea of how a fennec fox has unlimited amounts of energy.

I drew 100’s of fennec foxes all over several books and different pages to get that rough doodle look, I exaggerated their ears and simplified it as much as I could to create the quirky character you can see here.
The next challenge was having them interact with day to day objects. I ended up having to glue them to a small wooden rod that I attached to a small wooden cube and hid within the coffee beans.

I then created a very photography studio to capture the photos, to then bring together into photoshop. The only real photo editing was enhancing the colours in photoshop and combing the images together.
I would love to know how you all think I went, and what approach you would have taken!
