Printing Process 101 WIP

This is the basis of my design for Printing Processes 101, I liked a very simplistic feel and wanted to have an easy to read book. I will continue to work with multiple font combinations along with possible background colors and textures.
This project is created from card stock clay and hand bound with string. The design uses a simple color scheme that gives the book easy, to the point look. I used card stock to give the finished book a nice heavy, dense, and high quality feel. Making this book was an interesting process and I enjoy having the finished copy.

The first step in this process was to come up with an inspiration and design scheme for the print process book. I was initially attracted to a very simple design and wanted the book to be very practical. I started to look at books that fit this criteria and I took a lot of inspiration from several books and began to sketch my ideas. Working on Indesign I began to add the text into the design and then started to add samples to pre designated areas.

Once all the major layout was complete I began to really push and tweak the book so the finished product reflected the amount of effort that was originally put into designing it. Once I felt the book was complete I took the book to get printed. Then I punched holes in the book, bound, and glued the pages secure.  After this stage was dry I began to add the samples in their designated areas.

This was an interesting project and I did learn a lot, especially about hand binding techniques. This project was much more time consuming than I had expected and I feel sorry for anyone that tried to do this all in one week! Hunting down all the samples was definitely a chore, and we a heads up on all the different types would have helped. This was an interesting change, from working and designing digitally, to seeing a finished book that we have had a hand in every step. I am overall quite pleased with my final design and finished book.
