Bidriware is a traditional metal handicraft developed in the 14th century CE, chiefly manufactured in Bidar. It is famous for its striking inlay artwork and has become an important export handicraft of India.
Bidriware goes through the stages of moulding, smoothening by file, designing by chisels, engraving by chisel and hammer, pure silver inlaying, smoothening again, buffing and finally oxidizing by soil and ammonium chloride. It is manufactured by casting an alloy of zinc and copper.
