Orlov's printing

Orlov's printing. Its main difference from conventional printing methods is that along a continuous curve, several colors can abruptly replace each other without transition zones. In 1891, the inventor of this type of printing was Ivan Ivanovich Orlov, an employee of the Expedition for the Preparation of Government Securities (forerunner of GOZNAK).
This method of printing from its inception to the present day is almost invariably used on those types of protected products that require particularly reliable protection. As a protective technology, the orlov's printing is used on stcurities and banknotes of many world currencies, including, of course, on Russian rubles.
On this frame on the right is a portrait of I.I. Orlov, and several zones with the effect of the orlov's printing are highlighted. There are no problems on our frame for the on-screen representation of this effect, but in order to get such a typographic print we need this special orlov's printing machine.

Unfortunately, on the Web, information about the orlov's printing is often distorted: it is given out as an rainbow printing, while in some sense it is antagonists: with rainbow printing one color of the curve can smoothly change into another, while with orlov's printing this happens, on the contrary sharply without transition zones.

Орловская печать. Основное отличие её от обычных способов печати состоит в том, что вдоль непрерывной кривой несколько цветов могут резко сменять друг друга без переходных зон. Изобретателем этого вида печати в1891 г. был сотрудник Экспедиции заготовления государственных бумаг (предтеча ГОЗНАКа) Иван Иванович Орлов.

Этот способ печати со времени своего возникновения и до наших дней практически неизменно используется на тех видах защищённой продукции, которые нуждаются в особо надёжной защите. В качестве защитной технологии орловская печать используется при печати ценных бумаг и банкнот многих мировых валют, в том числе, конечно, и на российских рублях.

На этой рамке справа помещён портрет И.И. Орлова, и выделено несколько зон с эффектом орловской печати. Для экранного представления этого эффекта на нашей рамке не возникает проблем, но для того, чтобы получить такой типографский оттиск нужна эта специальная машина орловской печати.

К сожалению, в Сети информация об орловской печати часто искажена: за неё выдают ирисовую печать, в то время как это в каком-то смысле антагонисты: при ирисовой печати один цвет кривой может плавно переходить в другой, при орловской же печати это происходит, напротив, резко без переходных зон.
